Remembering Libby
This write up and book is by, Chrissy Calvert, Libby's doting Nanny, who works tirelessly to help and keep Libby's memory and legacy alive.
This book is dedicated to my beautiful little granddaughter, Libby, who was always truly “as good as Gold”. A wonderful kind hearted and empathetic child, she loved nothing more than cuddling with her Nanny.
Our days together were filled with laughter and adventure, picnics by the canal, and listening to the gentle sounds of cows, moorhens, sheep and chickens. We learned about life and cherished each other’s company. And of course we wrote our books together on winter nights.
Libby had a heart of gold. She would always rush to help her friends whenever they fell, always quick to lift them up. She adored her classmates, especially Lennon who have found their way into her stories.
From baby ballet to gymnastics, Libby thrived in every activity she pursued. When a PE teacher remarked on her flexibility whilst we were at a birthday party Facepainting, I took her to gymnastics, where she excelled. Later, she discovered cheerleading, her true happy place,. Where she trained hard and made wonderful friends. I was proud to support her passion with my Facepainting earnings, knowing how much joy it brought to her.
In her last competition, Libby is initially placed second. But after her coach communicated with the judges about a mistake, they reviewed the footage and awarded Libby’s team first place in the entire country! She was over the moon, celebrating this incredible achievement with all her friends.
As the week went by, I noticed Libby wasn’t quite herself. I thought it might be just growing pains, but when she was finally taken to hospital, we received the devastating news: Libby had cancer. Two weeks later diagnosed with neuroblastoma, which is typically found in young children up to five, an aggressive cancer her condition was a cruel twist of fate. Libby had it in 7 places, including her brain with a big lump on her head, and an 8cm tumour in her tummy. My beautiful granddaughter had being struck by this devastating disease.
Despite the challenges, Libby was a little warrior. She fought with strength and grace after many operations surrounded by prayers from everyone who loved her. I was overjoyed when she received all clear in June 2022, but my joy turned to heartbreak when, on 24th of August 2022 Libby passed away in the afternoon.
This book is a testament to her incredible spirit and a way to leave her legacy behind. Libby was the most amazing person in my life, and I will forever hold her memory close to my heart. She is with me still guiding me until we meet again, darling.
To everyone who has supported me on this journey, thank you. You know who you are, and I am eternally grateful for your kindness and strength. Including Sarah whom is an advocate to understanding grief, after loosing her precious son Brett, but keeping his legacy alive, your an inspiration to everyone
